Crandell Addington was known by his poker nickname "Dandy". The player's nickname comes from the term "dandy", people who had good taste and fantastic aesthetic sense. For being well-dressed on the Texas poker circuits in the 1960s, he became known as "Dandy". Around that time, in 1969, "Dandy" attended the Texas Players Convention in Reno, Nevada, and it was at this time that he had in mind the creation of the World Series of Poker.

By this time, Addington was already a self-made millionaire, and he spent his time playing poker for fun. For Addington, poker was not about making money, it was about a personal challenge to his life. After that period, in 1970, the World Series of Poker was finally conceived.

In the 1970 edition, Addington was present at the WSOP along with Amarillo Slim, Doyle Brunson, Silor Robers, Puggy Pearson and Carl Cannon. In subsequent editions, Addington has made it to the WSOP Main Event Grand Final from 1972 to 1979. Through his constant presence at the main event final tables, Addington has received recognition as the player who made the most appearances on the table. Although he has not won any bracelets on his WSOP journey, Addington has taken runner-up in two editions of the WSOP.

The first time the manager got a runner-up was in 1974, when he had to face the legend Johnny Moss in the grand final. His second appearance in the grand final was in 1978, when the manager had to face Bobby Baldwin.

Despite this, Addington is extremely well known for being one of the biggest take-all winners until 1978 within the WSOP main events. However, Addington failed to take the first place win in his WSOP trajectory.

Over time, Addington's presence has dwindled within the World Series of Poker. But even so, the legendary Doyle Brunson voted Addington a legend of No Limit Hold'em, describing him as "The Legend of No Limit Hold'em".

In 2005, Addington participated in the WSOP edition, but did not perform as well as in his golden age. Despite this, the manager was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame for all his contribution to the game of poker.

As of 2008, Addington was reportedly profiting about $160,000 from live poker tournaments. However, as already said, Addington didn't make his living from poker, but from his business. According to information, Addington is CEO, President and Director of Phoenix Biotechnology, a company that focuses on cancer treatment.

As for schooling, Addington graduated from Southwestern University in economics and accounting. From there, Addington invested in several sectors, such as chemical manufacturing and even oil and gas exploration. However, for some time in his life, Addington put aside his business side and dedicated himself to the game of poker, only returning to the market in the 1980s, putting his business degree to work.
